\r\nElizabeth (B) Fraleigh O’Toole, President of\r\n\r\nO’Toole’s Herb Farm<\/a> will speak at\r\n\r\nSouth Georgia Growing Local 2014<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThis presentation will touch on growing herbs for pleasure, growing\r\nherbs for the fresh cut market and growing herbs in greenhouse\r\nproduction for wholesale and retail sales. I will cover the joy and\r\npositive healing energy these plants give, the passion of growing\r\nand using them and how I got to this place.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n“A village is happening out here,” B said during a tour\r\nof her 114-acre farm’s greenhouses, gardens, retail shops and\r\nresident flock of sheep. “If you think Walmart, we’re\r\nabsolutely the opposite. Small, local, knowledgeable, none of our\r\nplants genetically modified with man-made chemicals.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\nO’Toole’s Herb Farm<\/a> was started in 1990 by Jim and B O’Toole on a\r\nsmall portion of land from B’s family dating back to 1840s. B’s\r\nonly background in agriculture comes with her gene pool, from\r\ngenerations of farmers plus her father and both grandmothers were\r\navid gardeners. She graduated from FSU in 1972 with a BA degree in\r\nInterior Design, lived and worked in Tallahassee until moving back\r\nto Madison to start the herb farm. A passion for growing and an\r\nintense love of the land with a determination to restore the family\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nfarm made organic farming an obvious direction to take. Now 24 years\r\nlater, after a couple of major losses, life at the farm has evolved\r\ninto a healing place, not only for B but for all who seek it.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
