There will be a \u00a0hands-on\r\nintroduction to many different natural fibers \u00a0and a discussion of\r\ntheir individual characteristics which may be used to enhance a\r\nfinal cloth. A few spindles and wool will be available if you would\r\nlike to try out what you have learned . \u00a0Inexpensive spinning and\r\nweaving tools that are easy to make will be discussed so you can get\r\nspinning and weaving right away. \u00a0Though the emphasis in this hour\r\nand a half is on spinning for weaving, discussion will also include\r\nspinning for knitting, crocheting, lacemaking, embroidery, and\r\nsewing. Come and join us and learn to turn your cotton fields, pet\r\nhair, sheep wool, and other fabulous fibers into unique cloth that\r\nyour friends will admire.\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHer speaker bio:<!--more-->\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostamuseum.com\/collections\/textiles\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/valdostamuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/111_8122.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nI grew up loving textiles, learning my colors, \u00a0playing with my\r\nmothers buttons and threads as she sewed for her three daughters.\r\nShe gave me scraps of her fabric at an early age to make my own doll\r\nclothes and I completed my first embroidery when I was 5 years old.\r\nI earned my B.S. at the University of Georgia in Home Economics. My\r\nstudio work is focused on researching and drawing from historic\r\ntextile techniques such as lace making, spinning, weaving, dyeing,\r\nembroidery, and sewing while putting them into a modern context.
