Is it true?\n<\/blockquote>\nSo I told Joyce I didn&#8217;t know, but I&#8217;d take the case.\n<p>\nThe back of the pamphlet has a transcription of the tombstone pictured:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<center>\nIN MEMORY OF 19 YEAR OLD\n<br>\nP.F.C. U.S.M.C.R.\n<br>\nKILLED IN ACTION DECEMBER 2, 1950\n<br>\nYDAM-NI CHOSIN RESERVOIR KOREA\n<br>\n<hr>\n<br>\nTHE INCOMPETENT, GREEDY, CONFUSED POLITICIANS\n<br>\nELECTED IN 1948 WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS\n<br>\nBOY BEING MURDERED IN KOREA\n<\/center>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nA bit of googling found the soldier was real;\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.koreanwar.org\/html\/korean_war_project_remembrance.html\">\nhe is written in up in a Korean War Remembrance Project:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nPFC JAMES WARING HORNING JR\n<br>\n5th Marine Regiment\n<br>\nD CO 2 BN\n<br>\n1st Marine Division\n<br>\nMarines\n<br>\nHostile, Died (KIA)\n<br>\nDate Of Loss: December 2, 1950\n<br>\nService Number: 1042294\n<br>\nSAVANNAH, GA\n<br>\nLocation of Loss: CHOSIN RESERVOIR &#8211; YUDAM-NI\n<br>\nBorn: October 18, 1931\n<p>\nComments: Private First Class Horning was a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea on December 2, 1950.\n<p>\nKorean War Project Key No: 13772\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/yellowfootprints.com\/forums\/showthread.php?t=6626\">\nmore about him:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nPrivate First Class Horning was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nAnd apparently yes, it&#8217;s true that there was such a marker.\nGoogle books has scanned a book,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=YRVswe0eCQwC&#038;pg=PA40&#038;lpg=PA40&#038;dq=%22incompetent,+greedy,+confused%22+bloomingdale,+georgia&#038;source=bl&#038;ots=t4uAeGtEZS&#038;sig=Be3Knwc2vxU2MxVrVDp0Qlh0UMg&#038;hl=en&#038;ei=SFQITKzZJ8H68Aa83dl4&#038;sa=X&#038;oi=book_result&#038;ct=result&#038;resnum=1&#038;ved=0CBYQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&#038;q=%22incompetent%2C%20greedy%2C%20confused%22%20bloomingdale%2C%20georgia&#038;f=false\">\nSentimental Savannah: Reflections on a Southern City&#8217;s Past<\/a>,\nby Polly Powers Stramm.\nIt says:\n<blockquote>\nA Father&#8217;s Bitterness Over War Lives Forever\n<p>\n&#8216;Inscribed, in part, on the imposing granite marker in the small graveeyard\nnear Bloomingdale are angry words: &#8220;The incompetent, greedy, confused\npoliticians&#8230;were responsible for this boy being murdered.&#8221;\n<p>\n&#8216;These words were etched on the marker after Marine PFC James Waring\nHorning, Jr. was killed in action at Yudam-Ni, Chosin Reservoir, Korea.\nHorning&#8217;s father, nicknamed, &#8220;Judge,&#8221; ordered the huge memorial after he\nlearned of his only son&#8217;s death.
