\nWe spend our lives being paranoid about death, murder, homicide,
\nyou name it, it’s on the front page of every paper, CNN…. Look at homicide at the bottom, for God’s sake!<\/p>\n

\nEvery single one of those ones in the red is a diet-related disease.
\nAny doctor, any specialist, will tell you that.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The top three are heart disease, cancer, and stroke.
\nNumber 6 is diabetes.
\nThose are the ones in red on Jamie Oliver’s graph.
\nHomicide is number 15.

\nIn 2006 72,449 people died of diabetes and 18,573 of homicide.<\/a>
\nYou’re almost 4 times as likely to die of diabetes.
\nAnd about 40 times more likely to die of heart disease.)<\/p>\n

\nI want to show a picture of my friend Brittney.
\nShe’s sixteen years old.
\nShe’s got six years to live.
\nBecause of the food that she’s eaten.
\nShe’s the third generation of Americans that hasn’t grown up within a food
\nenvironment where they’ve been taught to cook at home
\nor in school.
\nOr her mum. Or her mum’s mum.
\nShe has six years<\/em> to live!\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We need to change normal.
\nThat’s what Jamie Oliver wants to do.<\/p>\n

\nObesity leads to diabetes and heart disease.
\nAnd what leads to obesity?
\nLack of exercise combined with food stuffed with
\nhigh fructose corn syrup (HFCS), salt, and fat
\nin massive portions.<\/p>\n

\nFast food has taken over the whole country, we know that.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Time to take it back.<\/p>\n

\nI wish I could come up here today and hang up a cure for AIDS or cancer,
\nyou’d be fighting and scrambling to get to me.
\nThis, all this bad news, is preventable. That’s the good news.
\nIt’s very preventable.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How?
\nVote with your food purchases.
\nDemand a food ambassador in every supermarket.
\nDemand big food businesses back food education.
\nGet the government to work with the fast food purveyors
\nto wean us off the fat, sugar, and salt.
\nSchools, ages 4-whenever: proper fresh food cooked from local sources on site.
\nEvery child should leave school knowing how to cook ten recipes
\nthat will save their life.
\nCorporate American should feed their staff properly.
\nYou can care and be commercial.<\/p>\n

\nThat’s his prescription.
