He spent thirty years in teaching and high-energy\r\nresearch at CERN, Cal Tech and Brookhaven. He is currently Chairman\r\nof the Board of National Recovery Technologies, a Nashville Company\r\nthat he founded to research and build high-speed commercial machines\r\nfor the separation of plastics and metal alloys.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAnne Roos trained as an architect and has been involved in Nashville\r\npublic life since arriving here 50 years ago. Her interest in\r\ncommunity planning led to service on the Metro Planning Commission,\r\nParks and Recreation Board and Metro Historical Commission, among\r\nmany other non-profit committees. She serves as a Life member of the\r\nBoard of the Adventure Science Museum and is on the Board for The\r\nConservancy of Centennial Park and the Parthenon. The Fannie Mae\r\nDees Park Dragon, the Athena and &ldquo;Come Play&rdquo; on the\r\nPeabody campus were her projects.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nIn\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/news.vanderbilt.edu\/2014\/06\/12\/elsie-quarterman\/\">\r\nher obituary<\/a>,\r\nElsie asked:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to\r\nFriends of Radnor Lake, Friends of Warner Parks, Cheekwood Botanical\r\nGarden and Museum of Art or any group dedicated to the enjoyment and\r\npreservation of plants and the environment.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAunt Elsie, gone, but\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/elsie\">\r\nnever forgotten<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A bench inscribed simply &#8220;Dr. Elsie Quarterman, Plant Ecologist&#8221; sits under cedar trees in the herb garden at Cheekwood Botanical Garden; appropriately for a scientist whose specialty was cedar glades.
