Criminals didn’t walk two dusty miles to\nrob or rape, if they knew they’d be welcomed by five barking dogs and a\ndouble barrel shotgun. And there\nwere no drive-by shootings. Our values were better when our\nroads were worse!\n
People did not worship\ntheir cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they\ndidn’t tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you\nwith dust and bust your windshield with rocks.\n
\n…\n
\nWhat if it rained and\nthe Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then\nyou stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped\npopcorn and pony road on Daddy’s shoulders and learned how to make prettier\nquilts than anybody.\n
\n—\nWritten by Lee Pitts broadcast by Paul Harvey<\/a>\n<\/blockquote>\nThere are plenty of paved roads in Lowndes County, and other dirt roads where the majority of residents actually do want them paved.
