Well, we weren&#8217;t entirely successful, as you can see. Many of the trees in the canopies are gone, and all the trees on the right of way elsewhere on the road are gone.  But we did at least save some of the canopy trees.\n\n<!--more-->\n<p>\nAnd the idea of <a href=\"\/blog\/2008\/11\/open-letter-to-commisioner-lee.html\">preserving canopyies while paving roads<\/a> has caught on with the county government, which says it has done so on another road already, and plans to do so on Coppage Road when they pave it. The county&#8217;s idea of &#8220;saving&#8221; a canopy may not be the same as ours, but saving any portion of a canopy is a major shift in county policy. You helped achieve that.\n<p>\nCome help celebrate that achievement. The county is holding a ribbon cutting for Quarterman Road, 10AM Thursday 10 September 2009, at the north end of the north canopy.
