Koller, Maria F\u00fcrhacker, Armen Nersesyan, Miroslav Mi\u0161\u00edk, Maria Eisenbauer and Siegfried Knasmueller,\nArchives of Toxicology\nVolume 86, Number 5 (2012), 805-813, DOI: 10.1007\/s00204-012-0804-8.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nGlyphosate (G) is the largest selling herbicide worldwide; the most\ncommon formulations (Roundup, R) contain polyoxyethyleneamine as\nmain surfactant. Recent findings indicate that G exposure may cause\nDNA damage and cancer in humans&#8230;.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/travellershavenfarms.com\/2009\/04\/04\/roundup-poison\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d8341cb65b53ef017ee43a854b970d\" width=\"127\" height=?169\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a00d8341cb65b53ef017ee43a854b970d-pi.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>\nSince we found genotoxic effects after short exposure to\nconcentrations that correspond to a 450-fold dilution of spraying\nused in agriculture, our findings indicate that inhalation may cause\nDNA damage in exposed individuals.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s probably not even the &#8220;active&#8221; ingredient, glyphosate,\nthat&#8217;s causing this DNA damage,\nmore likely one of its &#8220;inert&#8221; ingredients.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSayer Ji wrote for Greenmedinfo 15 October 2012,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenmedinfo.com\/blog\/research-roundup-herbicide-toxicity-vastly-underestimated\">\nResearch: Roundup Herbicide Toxicity Vastly Underestimated,<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nBut adjuvants in glyphosate formulations do not just increase the\ntoxicity of glyphosate \u2014 they are themselves highly toxic.\nIndeed, a study published in the journal Toxicology September, 2011 [sic: 2012]\ntitled &#8220;Ethoxylated adjuvants of glyphosate-based herbicides are\nactive principles of human cell toxicity,&#8221; found 24 hour exposures\non liver, embryonic and placental cell lines at concentrations as\nlow as 1 ppm \u2014 a dose well within &#8220;acceptable&#8221; environmental\nand occupational doses \u2014 resulted in negative effects on\ncellular respiration and membrane integrity.[ii] The authors\nreported their findings as such:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nAltogether, these results challenge the establishment of guidance\nvalues such as the acceptable daily intake of glyphosate, when these\nare mostly based on a long term in vivo test of glyphosate alone.\nSince pesticides are always used with adjuvants that could change\ntheir toxicity, the necessity to assess their whole formulations as\nmixtures becomes obvious. This challenges the concept of active\nprinciple of pesticides for non-target species.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nWhat the consumer of GM-contaminated food must understand is that\nglyphosate, and the many insufficiently tested &#8220;inactive&#8221;\ningredients sprayed on these foods, enter the body and have real,\nadverse effects that are cumulative, even if mostly subclinical. The\nonly way we can be sure to reduce our exposure to these\nagrichemicals is through consciously refraining from consuming them.\nAnd how do we do that? Get the stuff labeled, and give the consumer\na choice not to eat it.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nMaybe you should think twice before spraying Roundup on your yard.\nMaybe we all should think twice before\neating food sprayed with Roundup,\nsince\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/01\/glyphosate-found-in-all-samples-of-urine-many-times-drinking-water-limit-.html\">\npesticides remain in the food, all the way through to urine.<\/a>\nOh, and\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/11\/pesticide-spray-drift-finally-gets-legal-rebuf.html\">\nyou do have legal recourse for pesticide drift.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s the more recent journal article:\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23000283\">\nEthoxylated adjuvants of glyphosate-based herbicides are active principles of human cell toxicity.<\/a>\nMesnage R, Bernay B, S\u00e9ralini GE.\nToxicology. 2012 Sep 21. pii: S0300-483X(12)00345-9. doi: 10.1016\/j.tox.2012.09.006.
