{"id":639,"date":"2009-01-22T09:44:11","date_gmt":"2009-01-22T14:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/valdosta-transit-implementation-plan.html"},"modified":"2009-01-22T09:44:11","modified_gmt":"2009-01-22T14:44:11","slug":"valdosta-transit-implementation-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/valdosta-transit-implementation-plan.html","title":{"rendered":"Valdosta Transit Implementation Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostacity.com\/Index.aspx?page=118\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"200\" height=\"309\" border=0 alt=\"Transit-Needs-Map.png\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quarterman.com\/images\/Transit-Needs-Map.png\"><\/a>\nA couple of weeks ago (Wednesday, Jan 7th, 2009), I went\nto a public meeting on a\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/local_story_003220009.html\">\nTransit Implementation Plan for the Valdosta Urbanized Area<\/a>.\nBasically, where should the proposed Valdosta bus system run?\nThis is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostacity.com\/Index.aspx?page=118\">\nValdosta Transportation Master Plan.<\/a>\n<p>\nIt was quite interesting that there was such a meeting,\nat which the various organizers (SGRDC, MPO, and the consultant)\nactively solicited input from the attendees, in both ad hoc and\norganized ways.\nFirst they gave a presentation and answered questions.\nThen they asked participants to fill out a questionnaire\nabout where they lived, worked, and played.\nThe presentation for that meeting\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgrdc.com\/transportation\/ValdTransitImplen.htm\">\nis online.<\/a>\nThey even scheduled several more Public Involvement Meetings.\nHm, I&#8217;m not seeing that schedule online, but presumably they&#8217;ll\nput it up before the meetings happen.\n<p>\nThere was pretty good attendance: several plain citizens,\nthe mayor, a couple of city council members, a couple of county commissioners,\nat least one planning commission member, a member of the Zoning Board\nof Appeals, a newspaper reporter, etc.\n<p>\nIf you want a bus to run near you, I&#8217;d recommend going to one of these\nmeetings, or contacting the organizer,\nCorey Hull, MPO Coordinator, 229-333-5277.\n<p>\nLowndes County has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/dpt_content.asp?id=76&#038;pid=9\">\nThoroughfare Plan<\/a>,\nwhich is currently being revised.\nWe&#8217;ll see what the public input process for that turns out to be.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A couple of weeks ago (Wednesday, Jan 7th, 2009), I went to a public meeting on a Transit Implementation Plan for the Valdosta Urbanized Area.
