These\r\nhave been compiled from tax lists, deed books, sheriff sales, and\r\nother records. All of that information is searchable.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe following is a link to the map covering the area of modern\r\nBrooks County and Lowndes County, as well as parts of Echols County,\r\nLanier County,and Thomas County. The area for Echols County and\r\nLowndes County is more or less finished. The maps are color-coded.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nRed = The landowners or their families that were there before the Civil War were still there.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nBlue = The landowners came during the Civil War.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nBrown = Freedman landowners, or in some cases land that was owned by free people of color before the Civil War.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nLight Blue = Land the was owned by people outside of the county.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nYellow = Land that the landowners from about 1870 cannot be positively identified.\r\n<p>\r\nAreas without color are those land records have not been encountered yet, and were probably owned by people living elsewhere in Georgia.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nFor the mill marked with the icon just southeast of Bowen Mill Pond,\r\nWRDHP says:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nname\r\n<br>\r\nHicks\/Sinclair Mill\r\n<p>\r\ndescription\r\n<br>\r\nGeorge Hicks sold in 1845.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nFor the odd-shaped property straddling the Thomasville Road (US 84)\r\n south of Bowen Mill Pond, WRDHP says:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nname\r\n<br>\r\nBenjamin W Sinclair\r\n<p>\r\ndescription\r\n<br>\r\nLL 434, 441. Sinclair owned somewhere around 900 to 1000 acres.\r\n<p>\r\nThis is a far cry from what I thought he owned, which I imagined as\r\na hardscrabble small farm off of what is now GA 76, between Quitman and Morven.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sinclair.quarterman.org\/pictures\/elsie\/pb300105.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"B.W.
