Surveyor\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nSo apparently B.W. Sinclair owned 903&frac14; acres\r\naround the corner of what is now Jackson Road\r\n(marked on the Plat as Coffee Road)\r\nand Coffee Road (marked on the Plat as &ldquo;Road&rdquo;).\r\n<p>\r\nThat 27 September 1844 survey date makes sense.\r\nB.W. Sinclair was born 12 September 1812 in Thurso, Scotland.\r\nHe immigrated to Georgia in September 1837,\r\n&ldquo;sailing from Liverpool to\r\n2 CONT Charleston, S. C., on the ship &lsquo;Victoria&rsquo;&rdquo;,\r\naccording to my aunt Jane Sinclair Quarterman,\r\nhis great-granddaughter,\r\nwho knew his children and grandchildren.\r\nHe married Susannah Canby Faries, 24 November 1842,\r\nin Savannah, according to his son-in-law&#8217;s family Bible.\r\nAccording to family oral history, they moved shortly after marriage\r\nto a farm near Morven.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sinclair.quarterman.org\/pictures\/elsie\/pb300106.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Susannah Canby Faries\" style=\"border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/sinclair.quarterman.org\/pictures\/elsie\/pb300106.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<br>\r\nSusannah Canby Faries,\r\n<br>\r\nb. 18 Jan 1819, Savannah,\r\n<br>\r\nd. 3 Jul 1890, Quitman\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThat is the Bible of my great-grandfather Thomas Shepard Quarterman,\r\nwho married B.W. Sinclair&#8217;s later property?\r\n<p>\r\nAccording to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/bowen-mill-pond-in-1870-2019-02-07.html\">\r\nprevious information from WRDHP<\/a>,\r\napparently in 1845 B.W. Attest Jeremiah Wilson C.S.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nInteresting the same surveyor did both surveys.\r\nThere probably weren&#8217;t many surveyors around, I suppose.\r\n<p>\r\nSo that&#8217;s 792&frac12; acres according to the text,\r\nor 792 <sup>1<\/sup>&frasl;<sub>4<\/sub> according to the plat.\r\nThere&#8217;s no house site indicated, and the whole area looks pretty\r\nswampy.\r\n(It still was, the last time I went to Bowen Mill Pond.)\r\n<p>\r\nHowever, according to the previous information from WRDHP,\r\nB.W. Sinclair was on the 1871 tax list as also owning the 490 acres\r\nin LL 433. LD 12,\r\nfrom Bowen Mill Pond east over Dry Lake Road:\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Plots Outlined, Map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=7680\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none\" id=\"7682\" width=\"600\" height=\"433\" alt=\"Plots Outlined, Map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/ee7a02f8907eca79fe36c7a75cf116c3.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<br>\r\nAnnotated detail from\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/viewer?mid=1uAP1zA0ExqRb01-n1PrZCuaiQDo&#038;ll=30.79344703544485%2C-83.60060678146829&#038;z=15&#038;fbclid=IwAR1G5srGVGxlAPdYHQ2aBG2JVUuHtg_JxbLZEOPGmHuOkW2aLak8ZxkQINE\">\r\nWRDHP Google map of old Irwin County ca. 1870<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe obvious place to live on that lot would be on the high ground\r\non Dry Lake Road now labelled as Spring Acres Farm.\r\nSo maybe that&#8217;s where Bannockburn was.\r\n<p>\r\nAunt Jane referred to Dry Lake Road in a note she wrote in 1995:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n&ldquo;B. W. Sinclair and Rev. Eli Graves helped organize Quitman Presbyterian Church. It was originally a wooden building, with the lumber sawed at saw mill on the Sinclair place on Dry Lake Road. B. W. Sinclair lived first near where Morven is now in Brooks County, he later moved to the Dry Lake Road location.&rdquo;\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nSo he probably lived on Dry Lake Road, not at the mill.\r\nAnd the mill apparently was a saw mill.\r\n<p>\r\nAlso, 490 + 792.5 = 1282.5, which is apparently the number of acres\r\nB.W. Sinclair owned in 1971.\r\n<p>\r\nThey had many children.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Chart: B.W. Sinclair, S.C.F. Sinclair, Susannah Canby Faries Sinclair,\r\nand three of their children, Benjamin Thomas Sinclair, Amelia Henrietta &ldquo;Melie&rdquo; Sinclair, and Jane Elizabeth &ldquo;Janie&rdquo; Sinclair.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\nBenjamin Waters Sinclair died 7 July 1878,\r\nand his wife Susannah Canby Faries died\r\n3 July 1890.\r\nThey are buried in West End Cemetery in Quitman.\r\n<p>\r\nHere is some context for where these B.W.
