underground cable to another wireless hub in another building.\r\nDitchwitch and PVC conduit; long story.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Wireless hub, Starlink router, BrosTrend RJ45 adapter\" name=\"Inside:Wireless-hub-Starlink-router-BrosTrend-RJ45-adapter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/20220110_085000.html\"><img decoding=\"async\"  width=\"600\"  border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/20220110_085000.jpg\"  alt=\"[Wireless hub, Starlink router, BrosTrend RJ45 adapter]\" border=0><\/a>\r\n<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/20220110_085000.html\">Wireless hub, Starlink router, BrosTrend RJ45 adapter<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThis speedtest was done through all of the above, from the other building.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Speedtest.net\" name=\"Fast:Speedtestnet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/speedtest.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/speedtest.jpg\"  alt=\"[Speedtest.net]\" border=0><\/a>\r\n<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2022-01-10--starlink-router\/speedtest.html\">Speedtest.net<\/a> from another building through many devices and the BrosTrend bridge.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSure, it&#8217;s not as fast as when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2021\/12\/starlink-277-mbps-down-14-mbps-up-31-ms-latency-2021-12-26.html\">connected directly to the Starlink wireless router<\/a>:\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Speedtest.net\" name=\"ST:Speedtestnet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2021-12-26--starlink\/2021-12-26-10:51:57--ss.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2021-12-26--starlink\/2021-12-26-10:51:57--ss.jpg\"  alt=\"[Speedtest.net]\" border=0><\/a>\r\n<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2021-12-26--starlink\/2021-12-26-10:51:57--ss.html\">Speedtest.net<\/a> through the Starlink wireless router\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nProbably one or more of the hubs along the path between the buildings\r\nis squelching the speed.\r\nProbably one or more of them is limited to 100Mbps and isn&#8217;t really getting that.\r\nIt&#8217;s not the old laptop I used for the distant speedtest: connected directly to the Starlink router it gets 188 Mbps down.\r\n<p>\r\nBut 88Mbps down through all those devices is so much faster than anything else we can get around here,\r\nthat it&#8217;s good enough.\r\n<p>\r\nCuriously, that 30Mbps up through all those devices is twice as fast as the 14.41 up through Starlink&#8217;s own router.\r\nThat may just be variability through the day.\r\nSome time I may be interested enough to try enough tests to find out, but not today.\r\n<p>\r\nStarlink does sell an RJ45 adapter to plug into their setup, in front of their wireless router.\r\nWe&#8217;ve paid the $20 to order, and it has shipped.\r\nWe may or may not install it.\r\nAirgap seems like a useful thing in case of future troubleshooting,\r\nso we can so we have nothing plugged into the Starlink equipment.\r\n<p>\r\nMeanwhile, we found a way around their adapter taking three weeks to ship,\r\nand it&#8217;s good enough for now.\r\n<p>\r\nSure, there are occasional dropouts due to trees nearby,\r\nbut we have a plan to fix that if we need to: put the dish on a flagpole.\r\nSo far, there&#8217;s no need.\r\nIt&#8217;s so much more reliable than AT&amp;T&#8217;s alleged 3Mbps DSL\r\nor Verizon&#8217;s Home Fusion, or any other wireless service we&#8217;ve tried.\r\nThunderstorms are too much for it, sure.\r\nBut the it&#8217;s right back working in light rain.\r\n<p>\r\nSo that&#8217;s $99\/month plus $500 for the kit, plus $20 or $50 for a way to connect an existing Ethernet to it.\r\n<p>\r\nFor us it&#8217;s well worth the money.\r\nYour mileage may vary.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The new Starlink kit with the square dish and router doesn&#8217;t come with an Ethernet port.
