<em>Zephyranthes atamasca var. treateiae<\/em>,\r\nis a special variety that mostly grows in counties on either side of the GA-FL line.\r\nI hear there are also some in Louisiana and Alabama.<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Above\" name=\"TRL:Above\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2023-02-18--rain-lilies\/20230218_174143.html\">Above<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIt&#8217;s a variety of Atamasco lily, <em>Zephyranthes atamasca<\/em>,\r\nwhich is much more widespread, growing all over the southeastern U.S. coastal plain, from eastern Mississippi to southern Virginia.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Beside\" name=\"TRL:Beside\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2023-02-18--rain-lilies\/20230218_174148.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\"  width=\"600\"  border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2023-02-18--rain-lilies\/20230218_174148.jpg\"  alt=\"[Beside]\"><\/a>\r\n<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2023-02-18--rain-lilies\/20230218_174148.html\">Beside<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;Treat\u2019s zephyrlily is distinguished from atamasco liliy (<em>Z.\r\natamasca var. atamasca<\/em>) by its narrower leaves and a perianth tube that is\r\nmore than one quarter the length of the perianth.&rdquo;\r\n<p>\r\nThe perianth tube is where the base of the petals form a tube.\r\n<p>\r\nThat quote comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnai.org\/PDFs\/FieldGuides\/Zephyranthes_atamasca_var_treatiae.pdf\">\r\nFlorida Natural Areas Inventory, 1998-11-05<\/a>,\r\nwhich actually shows Treat&#8217;s Rain Lily growing as far south as Tampa.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Single\" name=\"TRL:Single\" href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/pictures\/2023-02-18--rain-lilies\/20230218_174203.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\"  width=\"600\"  border=\"0\" through repeated annual burning,&rdquo;\r\nsays <a href=\"http:\/\/coastalplainplants.org\/wiki\/index.php\/Zephyranthes_treatiae#cite_note-15\">Coastal Plain Plants<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\nThese are growing in an area where we burned around the house on December 26, 2022.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Prescribed burn around the house 2022-12-26\" house 2022-12-26<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe same reference says for habitat: &ldquo;Zephyranthes treatiae has been found in wet savannas[1], pine flatwoods, low pinelands, live oak woodlands, swamps, and xeric pine plantations.&rdquo;\r\n<p>\r\nWe have them mostly in piney woods.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd that reference says:\r\n&ldquo;It is also found in disturbed areas including mowed sod near flatwoods and roadsides.&rdquo;\r\n<p>\r\nThey are very common in road ditches around here,\r\nespecially in April, which is why they are commonly known as Easter lilies.\r\nBut they are no relation to the Japanese
