That is inappropriate on Quarterman Road, where there is no R-A, and the entire road is in the Agriculture\/Forestry\/Conservation Character Area. Many of us fought to preserve that Character Area only two years ago. Just last year we fought off a Dollar General on GA-122 at Skipper Bridge Road, in the same Character Area.\r\n<p>\r\nNow let\u2019s stop this rezoning in the same Character Area.\r\n<p>\r\nAccording to the \r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/lowndescounty.com\/157\/Unified-Land-Development-Code\">\r\nLowndes County Unified Land Development Code (ULDC)<\/a>,<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<H4>\r\n2.01.02 Rural Zoning Districts\r\n<\/H4>\r\n<p>\r\nThe following rural zoning districts are established:\r\n<p>\r\nA. E-A, Estate Agricultural District (5 acre). This district is intended to\r\nprovide for agricultural activities, including those related to crops,\r\nlivestock, and timber, protected from the effects of suburban residential\r\ndevelopment. Single-family homes, and specified accessory structures and\r\nuses are permissible.\r\n<p>\r\nB. R-A, Residential Agricultural District (2.5 acre). This district is intended\r\nto preserve the mixed agricultural and residential character of land while\r\nproviding a transition between rural and agricultural land and suburban\r\nand urban land.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAs you can see, E-A permits subdividing only down to 5-acre lots,\r\nwhile R-A permits 2.5-acre lots.\r\n<p>\r\nThe tract in question is parcel 0102 022 at 6119 Quarterman Road.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Lowndes County Parcel 0102 022, 6119 Quarterman Road --Lowndes County Tax Assessors\" Assessors<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThat tract is slightly less than 18 acres, so it could be chopped up into 7 2.5-acre lots.\r\nThat&#8217;s a small subdivision.\r\n<p>\r\nWe who live here like E-A to be &#8220;protected from the effects of suburban residential development.&#8221;\r\n<p>\r\nWe don&#8217;t want R-A as a\r\n&#8220;transition between rural and agricultural land and suburban\r\nand urban land.&#8221;\r\n<p>\r\nThe tract is on the southeast corner of Quarterman Road.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%;font-style:italic\">\r\n<a title=\"Quarterman Road with Parcel 0102 December 8, 2025<\/a>,<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\nall of Quarterman Road is E-A, except for a few lots in the subdivision on the west side, and a few lots near the northwest corner with Hambrick Strategy\r\n<p>\r\nThe rural character should be maintained by strictly limiting new\r\ndevelopment and protecting farmland and open space by maintaining\r\nlarge lot sizes and promoting use of conservation easements.\r\nResidential subdivisions should be severely limited and any minor\r\nexceptions should be required to follow a rural cluster zoning or\r\nconservation subdivision design.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nSome of us remember only two years ago fighting to keep the \r\nAgriculture\/Forestry\/Conservation Character Areas unchanged.\r\n<p>\r\nJust last year we fought off a Dollar General at the corner of GA 122 and Skipper Bridge Road, in the same Character Area.\r\n<p>\r\nLet&#8217;s stop this R-A rezoning where it does not belong.\r\n<p>\r\nPlease sign
