\r\nHowling and bumping from about 11:30 PM to 2 AM.\r\nHurricane Helene made Debby and Idalia sound like nothing.\r\n

\r\nAnd the morning light showed it was worse than that.\r\n

\r\nWhen we moved back here in 2007, old timers told us they remembered this oak on the back driveway\r\nfrom when they were young, early in the 20th century.\r\n

\r\nThis other oak just missed the red-iron building we were in.\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nAt least the solar panels will get more sunlight now.\r\n

\r\nThe house was also undamaged, although several large trees fell away from it.\r\n

\r\nWe were fortunate: no damage to any of our people, animals, buildings, or vehicles.\r\nOthers were not so fortunate, with trees through their houses.\r\n

\r\nColquitt Electric has 64,000 outages, twice Debby.\r\nThere is little mutual aid, because from the Gulf to Atlanta,\r\nall areas likely to assist have the same problem.\r\n

\r\nPoor Cedar Key.\r\nThey already had a bunch of buildings burn down.\r\nAnd last night they got a huge storm surge.\r\nSome unburnt houses are going to be totaled.\r\n

\r\nToday I will be chainsawing out the front driveway,\r\nthrough dozens of oaks and pines.\r\n

\r\nOn later days, same for the back driveway, but worse.\r\n

\r\nThere are at least four trees down on the east section of Quarterman Road.\r\nI can’t get there with the tractor to help until I can get out of my own driveway.\r\n

\r\nBut we have a generator and freezers full of food,\r\nso no worries.\r\n

\r\nAnd the Starlink was undamaged, so we’re on the net.\r\n
