\r\nBut some of it is quite bad.\r\n\r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\n \r\nFortunately, most of it is undamaged.\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nThe dogs wanted to see more.\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nBlondie is my usual figurehead.\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nThe worst area is the east end.\r\nThe big winds came from the east.\r\nThey blew down most of the few big pines in the swamp,\r\nand some of the cypress and blackgum trees.\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nAt least that’s still there.\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nNo ducks in it.\r\nMaybe someday.\r\n \r\nAnd no, people from south Florida, there are no alligators in this six-acre cypress swamp.\r\nMy grandfather bought this farm in 1921, and nobody has ever seen an alligator in this swamp.\r\nIt’s a third of a mile from the nearest creek.\r\nIt’s a Carolina Bay that is usually dry, but since Hurricane Debby it has stayed wet.\r\n \r\nSky isn’t in these pictures, because she went around instead of through the swamp.\r\n \r\nGretchen wasn’t there because she had run away to the Okefenokee Swamp.\r\n \r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Our cypress swamp doesn’t look too bad at the west end, after Hurricane Helene.
