Dr. Mario Bartoletti appears unchanged since I first met him five years ago.

An exploration of the aging process and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle as
perceived by an octogenarian.

Here’s

Becoming a Man.

in 2011 at almost 79, marching again as he did for civil rights many decades before.
And
in 2014 reminding the Lowndes County Commmission there are things they can do.

Apparently one of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle is remaining engaged in the community.

You can

register today for South Georgia Growing Local 2016,
to be held all day Saturday February 6th at Pine Grove Middle School.
Chris Beckham was struck by the variety: corn, chicken, fruits, goats, soap, composting, water, worms, solar power!
So many different topics in six tracks, “but all indigenous to South Georgia.”

Gretchen replied,

Indeed,
when this conference started six years ago,
we just had two tracks.
One was about cooking, and one was about growing,
pest control, and fertilizing, and how to have your garden be successful
in the special conditions of south Georgia and north Florida.
Because our conditions here are different than they are in north Georgia
or on the coast, or farther south in Florida where it never freezes.
We sort of have a very special environment here, and so this conference
is geared towards that.

My CSA!

We started market farming by accident. Some good friends inquired if
we ever sold any of our extra vegetables? Had not thought about
that—we sold them some purple onions, lettuce, and butternut
squash that day. Eight years later they are still good friends and
they are still buying our farm goods along with other friends and
acquaintances. But as the saying goes: “If I knew then what I know
now….” So let’s spend some time together learning some tips and
tools of market farming and gardening in general.
