Grow Your Own Organic Small Fruits –Jerry Larson

Veteran organic instructor Jerald Larson will talk about how to grow organic fruits at South Georgia Growing Local 2014:

Jerry’s presentation will focus on blackberries, blueberries, figs and muscadine grapes. He will explain and demonstrate practical, low cost methods for trellising and pruning; soil and bed preparation; weed suppression, irrigation, and harvesting.

His conference bio:

Jerry Larson recently retired after 25 years as a Fort Valley State University Extension Agent. His work focused on helping small farmers and hom e gardeners use organic practices for fruits and vegetables and he continues to work in this area. He is one of the foremost experts in organic fruit production in Georgia, particularly muscadine grapes. He has conducted over 15 years of organic trials in middle Georgia at university and farm sites with strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, figs and muscadine grapes.

He has been a regular presenter at Georgia Organics conferences and was given their 2007 Land Steward of the Year award.
