In this talk, we will present the work of UGA Tifton students whose
task was to implement an edible landscape design for the Future
Farmstead, a net-zero energy residence on campus. Our design intent
was to create a model sustainable landscape that could serve as an
educational and inspirational site for home owners in the area.
The presentation will be divided into three parts:
An overview of their landscape design process.
Ideas for sustainable home landscapes that integrate water,
soil, animal, plant, and human systems.
Planting design recommendations and a selection of plants
suitable for edible home landscapes in south Georgia.
Okra Paradise Farms has fresh okra every day. If you buy 10# or more, I will deliver in the Valdosta/Hahira/MAFB/Lakeland/Adel/Ray City areas. Less, I can arrange for you to pick it up at the farm. $2.00 per pound.
Research, including studies presented at the conference in Istanbul,
is showing that organic agriculture can deliver reliably high yields
”and that organic fields thrive in the face of disaster and
duress, where chemical-reliant crops falter. Organic fields, for
example, fare significantly better than chemically managed ones in
the face of extreme weather, such as droughts or floods.
Lowndes County Partnership for Health picked up some OPF
red potatoes to sell at their Mobile Market.
Next week probably OPF okra.
And every week other good vegetables and fruits from other farmers.
It’s Tuesday – know what that means? The Mobile Market, full of fresh fruits and vegetables, will be at Barnes Drug Store Downtown Valdosta from 2:30-4:30! They’re there every Tuesday! Come by and see them…they accept all forms of payment.
