Update 2026-03-26: Sugarcane planted 2026-03-24.
With a little shovel and hoe work, we got the insulating dirt off the sugarcane bed.

A freeze is predicted for tonight, so yesterday we cut the sugarcane and bedded it down for the winter.
That means we buried it a few inches deep to keep it from freezing.
But we kept some cane for squeezing juice to boil to make cane syrup.
River helped. The other dogs thought it was boring.

The watering house indicates the rows with cane. They also continue beyond the middle where the hoses start.
Watering hose just before the rains
This was just before the rains started. Three inches so far, so no hose watering since then.

Terry Davis cut the cane because of frost.
He ground the cane,
then Mr. Tucker lit the fire under the bowl;
Gretchen took pictures.
